NEW BOOK on queer art history includes section on hofmann paintings
Certainly the most notable publication on the art of Richard Hofmann this year was the February 2024 release of Professor Jonathan D. Katz’s comprehensive queer art history volume “About Face: Stonewall, Revolt and New Queer Art”, showcasing four Hofmann paintings which had been selected for the eponymous Chicago Wrightwood659 gallery exhibit in 2019.
In section divider labeled TRANSCEND (p.207), he pays homage to Hofmann along with five other artists from previous generations. An introduction to Hofmann’s artwork follows on pgs. 215-219.
GALLERY 98 on the web includes hofmann epehemera
Gallery 98, the premier purveyor of 1980’s East Village artist ephemera, also offers the likes of Richard Hofmann performance, club night and art event flyers.

White Hot Magazine author Coco Dolle provides a glimpse into the life of this irreverant artist and the face of The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black. Attached is a photo of the original flyer for the 1983 performance.

VisUALAids includes aN EXTENSIVE RICHARD HOFMANN SECTION
I maintain the Richard Hofmann gallery page on the VisualAIDS website, an organization dedicated to utilizing art to fight AIDS by provoking dialogue and supporting HIV+ artists.
I will also be providing a folder of printed magazine articles, gallery and performance ephemera to be made available for public research in their archives. Additionally, a drag performance of the artist filmed in 1983 is currently scheduled to be digitized from 16mm film.
